Winter Wellness: Pt. 3
Gut Check
We're really getting into today now! Get ready for gut health!!!
Gastrointestinal health can be the root cause for many other health issues including physical and mental health. The gut is controlled in part by the central nervous system in the brain and spinal cord. In addition, it has its own network of neurons in the lining of the gastrointestinal system, known as the enteric or intrinsic nervous system. In fact, the system of nerves in your gut is so influential that some researchers consider the gut a second brain.
Healing your gut allows your body to build a stronger immune system and produce the right kind of bacteria that tells your brain that it is ok to feel good again.
Some simple tips to help your gut health this winter:
• reduce your consumption of refined sugar, cause causes an imbalance in the gut bacteria that is associated with inflammation. A good general rule: inflammation = bad
• add fermented food to your diet such as kimchee, sauerkraut, kombucha, fermented vegetables
• manage your stress!!! Stress raises your cortisol levels, causing your digestive system to go into overdrive, sending your esophagus into spasms, increasing the acid in your stomach and often causing nausea, indigestion and more
Probiotics are an incredible way to help build up and maintain proper gut flora and function. doTERRA's PB assist contains prebiotics(think of it as food for the probiotic) and 6 strains of probiotic organisms in a unique double layer capsule - making it shelf stable, effective and a complete no brainer.
